Results of the 2011 American Hanoverian Inspection tour have been announced. Fontyn’s August 2011 studbook inspection score of 7.83 has her tied for third place nationally.

Fontyn is Mare Champion at AHS Inspection!

I am thrilled to report that homebred Fontyn (Fred Astair/Maurice/Wenzel I) was named Champion Hanoverian Mare at the Hilton Farm’s AHS inspection in Orange, VA on August 15th. “Margo” achieved a VERY gratifying 7.83 studbook inspection score. She is now Elite Eligible.

Highlights include a 8 for her trot, and 9 for the walk. Pictures, judges comments and individual scores coming soon!

SPS Malena has a Fielding filly!

Unbelieveable Offer on Fielding Frozen Semen Doses

In a push to get more foals on the ground, and to clean out frozen inventory at the Hagyard Equine Medical storage location in Kentucky, I am offering full breeding doses of Fielding semen for $100 per breeding dose, plus shipping. This is very fertile semen, resulting in six of seven first cycle pregnancies.

Fielding has a lifetime breeding license with the American Hanoverian Society and the Oldenburg NA/International Sporthorse Breeders. Offspring are fully eligible for registration with these registries. Because of Fielding’s Class I scores at his testing, he should be eligible for a breeding allowance from a large variety of other registries. Fielding finds fun at the Devon Horse Show Derby

For the first time since he was sold, I had the privilege of watching Fielding and owner Lindsay Rentz compete in the Hunters – at none other than the Devon Horse Show.

Lindsay considered the class list and the competition the night before the $25,000 USHJA INternational Hunter Derby. ”At that point I was thinking… I just want to get around.” Rentz entered Fielding in their second ever Derby against some of the best Derby horses (and seasoned riders) east of the Mississippi: Brunello, Praise, Sailor’s Valentine and last year’s winner Jersey Boy were all on the card.

“But we did more than just get around!…” And so they did! WIth a smooth, conservative ride, Lindsay and Fielding stood a thrilling 10th of 28 after the first round, and qualified for the Handy round of the competition. “….I’m SO HAPPY we qualified!” Derbys seem to suit both Fielding and Lindsay – ending up 11th overall after a solid Handy performance – even choosing a couple of high options this round. Fielding clearly expressed a liking for this type of event, and Lindsay says his next Derby will be at Gettysberg on June 26th.

Stay tuned! I plan on making another drive north to watch them “do the Derby” on June 26th.

Just wanted to let you know our TB mare Obey (AHSA National Champion Hunter Breeding ’00) has been confirmed in foal to Fielding! We are thrilled!

Also we are re-breeding the TB mare Unmistaken Habit to Fielding again this year, in hopes of creating another Fanfare.

AHF is very excited at the prospect of two foals in 2012 out of this program’s very, very fine group of broodmares. Of course, my first question to Dr. Splan was… “Did Obey conceive on the first cycle?” and the answer was yes!

It will be particularly gratifying to have a full sibling to Fanfare VT on the ground next year as Fanfare starts her career under saddle for owners Alex and Barb Schenck in Florida.

Sad day for AHF

On Friday, March 4, Lesley lost her dark bay filly by Embassy III at 275 days. The cause was umbilical torsion. We were blessed in that Lesley was unharmed by the abortion. We were very excited about this foal and the stallion Embassy III, which was to be Lesley’s legacy as Autumn Hill Farm winds down operations.

A very sad day.

It’s the time of year when spring seems like it is months away, yet shedding broodmares and lengthening days tell us that the new foal year will be soon.

MS Lesley will be the first to foal in early May. We are expecting the very first foal sired by Embassy III in the US. This wonderful dual-purpose stallion has been sold and imported to North America by French-Canadian young rider Matilde Blais as her riding stallion. Matilde is wintering in Florida with her horses.

I will be Wellington in mid-March, and hope to see E-III and meet Matilde.

Fielding enjoys another Winter Equestrian Festival

Fielding arrived in Wellington with trainer Kim Zindel-Buzby in late December. No Florida grass would grown under their feet – as Fielding, Kim and wonderful owner Lindsay Rentz entered WEF I and II with good results.

Owner Lindsay is holding her own against the pro’s in the Second Year Greens. Fielding and Lindsay have ribboned in good company in both over fences and the hack. Fielding continues to exceed everyone’s expections. He jumps 3’9″ with exactly the same grace and style as 3’6″.

Could there be a Derby in their future?

AHF’s 2010 Wrap-up

I hardly know where to start. 2010 was a very active year for Autumn Hill Farm alumni, and for Fielding and his progeny.

First, BIG congratulations are extended to Brittany Vleck and her 2005 mare Peri (Pablito – SPS Malena/Maurice) . Brittany went on the Amateur Handler circuit in Hunters(show name: Philigree), culminating in blue ribbons in BOTH classes at the 2010 Devon Horse Show, Amateur Handler and Broodmare Suitability 4 and Up. Peri was foot-perfect and greeted this huge new experience with aplomb. Brittany’s family and friends were there to cheer her on.

Congratulations are also due to Amy Longley – Fidelma’s new owner! The farm seems somewhat empty without the “big girl’s” presence. I wish the two of you years of happiness!

This was an exciting year, as seven more Fielding foals hit the ground, being his total progeny to 11. Best wishes go to:

Barb Hanel of Hood River, OR on her lovely colt ”Forest” (Barb was exceedingly pleased with this cross, bred her mare Allegra back to Fielding for 2011 on a single dose of frozen).
Donna Sullivan of Jarrettsville, MD on her colt out of her mare “Timeless”.
Karen Baker on her exciting filly “Solange”. This filly was rated a Premium 8.2 at her ISR Inspection – wowing the crowd and the judge with her spectacular trot. This filly is for sale. Photos, video and Karen’s contact information may be found on the Offspring page of the AHF website.
Virginia Tech, Middleburg VA on their typey colt “Field Day” out of their TB mare Molly Brown. This colt was purchased by our friend Lauren Dearlove, who has started some of AHF’s youngsters. I could not ask for a better owner and start for this wonderful young man.
Sheila Wilson of Germantown OH on her filly “Xocolata” out of her Arab/Saddlebred mare Xena. Sheila tells us that this ‘pocket pony” filly is everything she could wish for in this cross. AHF is so happy to hear that!
Special mention must be made of Jill Burrell of Gray Fox F in Petaluma, CA. Jill stepped in to provide a home for a TB mare in Texas that had been bred to Fielding. The mare was only six weeks out from foaling when she arrived at Jill’s farm. Jill was rewarded with a truly elegant filly, who scored a Premium with the ISR/OLD for 8.3. This filly in turn captured the heart of a former boarder and “Field Trip” has been purchased by Natalie Rietkerk. I cannot thank Jill enough for her careful and thoughtful stewardship of this mare and foal, and for generously sharing news, updates and photos with me. I also wish Natalie the best with her new filly!

Finally, my own Fielding foal, Fabrizzio out of SPS Malena (Maurice/Wenzel I/ Valentino xx) was everything I could hope for as well. Not only was Fielding able to positively influence the head and neck in the cross, the colt has an excellent foundation, appropriate for his size - which has been difficult for Malena to produce. In what was the absolute highlight of my year, Fabrizzio went to Fielding’s former trainer Michael Bragdell. I cannot wait until this colt grows up!

Reports from the “Field”

Barbara and Alex Schenck of Florida reports that Premium filly “ Fanfare VT” continues to both grow and delight all that come into her orbit. I hope to visit with all three when I am in Florida in March this year.

Laura Speer in Colorado is enjoying her 2009 Hanoverian colt “Field Trip by doing a little showing in hand. Her handsome young man rewarded her with a year-end 5th place in their region! Go Laura! It’s so nice to see folks just enjoy their youngsters – while getting them out and about.
